Our heeler mix (putting it kindly, he looks like a dingo) needs CCL. Vet has recommended TPLO. Post op sounds daunting. Vet recommended getting crate ASAP to get him used to confinement (surgery in just over 10 weeks). Post op crate to restrict furniture climbing, chasing cat, etc, for 8 weeks. He only goes out to relieve himself and we understand this will need to be done with leash for total post op time. He loves to run and play with his rope strenuously. The crate (Isis) I saw was only 24in high with open top. Dog weighs 32 lbs. and is 7 years old. Please comment on post op crates for dog this age and size.

I would only do the tight roap proceedure the rcovery is much faster and a 7 year old dog will most likly not jave to be crated I did not have to crate Bella at six but I did clspoe off the stairs she slept down syairs for close to eight weeks. Mainly because I did nit want her jummping on the bed. But I would not do the TPLO surgery at all!!

    Hi Kathy -

These are the 2 crates we used during post op. The small one to start (indoors) and the larger one as we got further along in the process. The larger one was used outdoors.

We have a 12 1/2 year old Causian Mountain dog that has a torn cucile ligamant. Our vet has recommended that she not have surgery. She gave us this wesite. Madline weighs 76#’s. I know that the article you don’t recommend a brace for dogs 40+ pounds. Madline is in goog health. We would like to know the procrdures costs and time involved?

Please let us know where you are located and if you think you can help Madline.

I really would nit hesitate getting him the tight roap proceedure it is worth it for them to be dogs again…

I would wait and see it may mend with scar tissue on its own but will never grow back togeter if it does have a small tear. I went through that for a whole summer Bella would be fine when we would get to the beach but by the time we left she would be limping and it just kept getting worse until she was limping all the time and toe touching. I just took my time deciding what to do and as it tuned out it was fine but I could have prevented maybe her second one going if I had done the first one sooner. I am fine though now I see how well she has done.

If you do tight roap you will not have to have a second provccedure to move screws and My Bell a 95 pound Berb=nese Mountain dog was putting weight on her leg with support ofcource from almost the second and third day after surgeruy. It is the only way to go consult Dr. Jimi Cook he is extreamly nice and very helpful and willing to discuss with any one how to help their ACL issue with their beloved pet. He did not stear me wong.
